Detangling Tips that are Key for Summertime

1. Spritz a detangling spray.

Once you’re home from the beach or your drive in the convertible, your hair is going to be a tangled, knotty mess. Don’t stress! The first thing you need to do is take out a detangling spray (we love Bed Head by TIGI Beach Freak Moisturizing Detangler Spray) and spritz a generous amount throughout your hair. This will help with brushing and make sure your hair stays hydrated and smooth during the process.

2. Brush your hair.

This step is obviously the most important of the detangling tips. Now that you have detangling spray in your hair, it’s time to gently brush out your knots. The best type of brush to use is one with synthetic bristles. The synthetic bristles bend easily and get deeper into knots to untangle your hair with minimal breakage. It’s important to focus on shorter strokes rather than longer ones to work on getting each knot out little by little. Longer strokes can lead to more damage and breakage as you’ll have to pull much harder and tear your hair to rip through that many tangles at once!

3. Use a repairing shampoo and conditioner.

Now that your knots are brushed out, it’s time to go in and repair any potential damage with a fortifying shampoo and conditioner duo. Ed’s note: Brush your hair before you shower to avoid frizz—washing detangled hair will allow all of the nutrients and protein of the shampoo and conditioner to reach every part of your strands for optimal results. We highly recommend Love Beauty and Planet Hope and Repair Coconut Oil & Ylang Ylang Shampoo and Conditioner to nourish your recently tangled hair and repair any strands that may have taken a beating during brushing.

4. Add oil for extra repair.

Once your hair is clean and brushed again post-shower, it’s a great idea to follow up all of these steps with a hair oil. You can add oil either to your damp hair or once it’s dry. The oil will serve as a reinforcement to all of the previous steps and further repair your hair. ApotheCARE Essentials The Mender Hair Oil replenishes nutrients and smooths roughened cuticles, which is perfect for distressed hair that was just detangled.
